I said of course, and gave some details. Then, to my surprise, someone responded to that yesterday, emailing me 3 apps to test. This person on the other hand does know how to compile apps in the .cia format and appeared to have access to the DSi SDK from what i gathered from the email. I can tell you that they did not work once installed from the .cia file, but they did install which I was impressed about. But like I said before I'm waiting on a reply on whether I can distribute the .cia files he/she sent me.--3dsguy 22:37, 1 November 2011 (CET)

:This is the problem many people seem to have with the test units. From what I can tell, the only way to actually run some unsigned application (not created by Nintendo) is by programming it on a development flashcard. --Neimod 01:11, 2 November 2011 (CET)

:By the way Neimod, I don't think that having a programmable ctr card is the only way to run unsigned code on a test 3ds, as you said nintendo can do it, and this is what test 3ds's are designed for. And as far as I am concerned, there are only 3 mediums from which you can load code, from internal memory nand (both CTR and TWL), Slot 1 Devices and the SD card. And a .cia file can be extracted to all of the mediums except the slot 1 device and slot 1 devices are programed with special devices.--3dsguy 11:10, 2 November 2011 (CET)

For you devs I have a present, so you can get a better understanding on how a .cia file works http://www.multiupload.com/4C2MKD9KEG in the archive is a .cia file which extracts data to the sd card, a copy of the files extracted to the sd card and the error report that is shown upon trying to load the extracted app. Have fun, and can someone once they understand it enough please explain why the error is occuring. Also a side note does anyone have a copy of the DSi dev menu executable, you can find it in the DSi SDK if you have it, if you do have it, I have that app recompiled into .cia format, though it does not boot on a 3DS, it might be interesting for comparison.--3dsguy 11:10, 2 November 2011 (CET)
